In April 2021, school division leaders recommended the creation of a Virtual Learning Academy as a learning model for the 2021 – 2022 school year to support the needs of families who continued to prefer a virtual learning model. In this model, students learn synchronously online from home or another place of their choosing.

The Virtual Learning Academy follows the traditional school schedule. Schedules were developed that serve student needs and meet the VDOE requirements. The Virtual Learning Academy is designated as a program.

The new designation as a school necessitates a sustainable funding source connected to average daily membership (ADM). Designation as a school also makes Chesterfield Virtual School subject to all standards of quality and accreditation requirements. The Chesterfield Virtual School will serve students in grades K-8 and continue to provide learning opportunities to meet the needs of students and families.
